Tree Blowover

This is a sad occurrence. Cory, our onsite ranch manager, informs that many trees are down. We hope for tree losses to be minimal as replacement trees do not bear fruit for 3 to 4 years after planting.

Our Sandy-Loam soil is heavily saturated with moisture at this time of year and in combination with springtime winds our orchard is at elevated risk. The accompanying photo of this mature tree is evidence of that. The trees have 22 x 18 foot spacing so the orchard layout itself affords some  collective protection. You’d think that blow over would be to the outer exposed rows but not so. It’s more a function of soil holding quality and shallow tree root structure.

While this years recent rain storm events may be nearing  an end, in our experience strong windy days can and will occur over the next 3 months.
