On the van ride out ORD airport this afternoon the driver spontaneously begins a monolog gesturing at the golden arches through his window and an item of historical interest: ‘this McDonalds eatery (Des Plaines) was the first in the chain, opening circa 1960’. We rode a little further pondering the legitimacy of his claim. I began to wonder whether I could at all trust of believe any of his spiel. ‘The O’Hare airport was named after WW2s first flying fighter ace…’ was another trivia bit. Maybe he’s working on a routine to increase tips. Was any of his info legit? Were we had?
The van dude was right about ORD being named for a WWII flying ace from the Chi-town area. I’ll check on the MickeyD’s claim for ya, if you’d like. I seem to recall that’s also a true statement but I’m not sure. Fly safely!
There I was in the back of the van shaking my head and making a face. I owe the driver a bigger tip next time. I did a google search and the McD’s history page returned with ‘a where it all began’ corroboration
spiel or not, when push comes to shove all that really matters is they still make the very best fries!
