On the White Oak Creek greenway (at Hwy 55) today and was happy to see this *new* stretch addition completed as far as Green Level Church Rd. Next stop, the ATT Trail.
Stereophonic
The old Marantz, restored to a garage installation. Plays different music then what was once cranked up on the Honky Cat loudness 27 (!) years ago.
Ramapo River

The exploration of an old railway bed behind the Sheraton Mahwah comes to an abrupt halt at this trestle, slippery from morning rain. Too risky.
2025 Update: The Sheraton is no longer. Demolished. Interesting history of the site.
preventative maintenance
Manufacturers recommend changing the timing belt at 60,000 miles or 6 years which ever occurs first. Catastrophic engine failure may otherwise result. This is a 10 year original and it appeared serviceable to me but I replaced it anyway. The water pump and belt tensioner too. An online How-To gave cookbook like instructions for this shade tree mechanic and after 11 careful hours, I had it licked.
Project of the Day
Upper Strut Mount Bushings. Remove and Replace. Knowing that it was a DIY added confidence. Stubborn nut fasteners and makeshift tools nearly sunk the attempt but determination prevailed.
Forest for the Trees
Carpet cover by hand. 30 bales. The trick is to stand upwind so as to avoid the dusty fallout.
Rusty Hulk
he belly of the beast was holed like Swiss Cheese. The new AC
evaporator promises not to rain condensate on the belowdecks.

In Defense of Food – An Eater’s Manifesto
For those not concerned with Orthorexia, this read is distilled by Michael Pollan to the following: Eat Food. Not too much. Mostly plants.
In 1973 the IMITATION food label rule was TOSSED OUT(!) What to do now? Avoid foods products containing ingredients that are A) Unfamiliar, B) Unpronounceable, C) More than five in number or that include D) High-Fructose Corn Syrup. None of these characteristics, not even the last one, is necessarily harmful in and of itself, but all of them are reliable markers for foods that have been highly processed to the point where they may no longer be what they purport to be. They have crossed over from foods to food products. Market practice: Shop the perimeter of the grocery store. Stay out of the middle.
The book is a continuation of Every Thing You Know (about food) is Wrong. Recall The Omnivore’s Dilemma, by same.
A taste of Rhode Island

In Wichita – an unexpected sight. Bill Koch (local boy) built her for Cup trials in ’92. Jayhawk, was a throw away. I had a chance to see the super secret keel while leaving the downtown on a river run. Unlike a previous jog in the opposite direction, there is nothing else to see here folks. The view, as the river streams to Arkansas, becomes rural like and my 5 mile route was generally flat on asphalt greenbelt.
